IN EARLY 2002 WE TOOK OVER the development of the flagship website of Academy Award-winning filmmaker, best-selling author, and political rabble-rouser Michael Moore. Since then we have been reworking MichaelMoore.com into a truly dynamic site that facilitates quicker communication between Michael and the public. By September 2002, we had also launched BowlingForColumbine.com to coincide with the theatrical release of the now-infamous documentary. Bowling for Columbine was the first documentary film accepted into competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 46 years and was the highest grossing documentary of all time... until the release of Fahrenheit 9/11. Fahrenheit 9/11 changed the way the world saw documentaries, and Plank was thrilled to be at the forefront supporting Michael with our development of Fahrenheit911.com.
In part thanks to Plank's creative designs and innovative, cutting-edge technology, all of Michael's sites have seen tremendous traffic growth. MichaelMoore.com saw an increase from around 100 000 unique visitors per month to a peak of over 6 000 000. During the initial run of the film Fahrenheit911, Michael's sites saw over 500 000 000 hits per month, with a peak of over 250 000 000 hits on November 2nd, 2004 - the day of the U.S. Presidential election. Michael's mailing list has grown from 30,000 to over 400,000 subscribers during our involvement. It's a credit to Plank's design and technology that we were able to create sites that could smoothly handle this kind of volume. It's also why Michael now uses the internet as a fundamental means of communication to his fans.
