Plank is extremely proud to mark our 10th anniversary of working with the Fantasia Film Festival. This year we did a lot more with them, including major improvements to what you see as well as what you don't see. Geoff's post from yesterday has a bit more on that. As an extra bonus, we were afforded a full page partnership advert in their popular printed programme.

So, we needed an idea...

I think back to when Plank was still in our old office space more than 12 years ago. I joked about changing the name of the company to Plan K if "Plans A through J failed to pan out". Somehow the joke stuck in my mind, and it was an easy conceptual jump to "Plan K from Outer Space". We knew that if anyone was to get the joke, it would be a Fantasia film fan. In case you've never heard of it, "Plan 9 from Outer Space" is a 1959 Sci-fi film written and directed by Ed Wood and was named one of the worst films ever made. The film is now in the public domain and can be watched here, if you dare. Wikipedia says...
"The plot of the film involves extraterrestrial beings who are seeking to stop humans from creating a doomsday weapon that would destroy the universe. In the course of doing so, the aliens implement "Plan 9", a scheme to resurrect Earth's dead as what modern audiences would consider zombies (called "ghouls" in the film itself) to get the planet's attention, causing chaos.

For years the film played on television in relative obscurity, until 1980, when authors Michael Medved and Harry Medved dubbed Plan 9 from Outer Space the 'worst movie ever made.' Wood was posthumously awarded the Medveds' Golden Turkey Award as the worst director ever."
Sarah and I brainstormed out the idea and I drew it up for Gary.

He loved the idea and expertly plugged away at in Photoshop. The final result looks great and is eerily loyal to the sketch. As @TanMcG said "cue creepy theremin space music wooo eeeei woooo".

After 10 years of that silly joke rattling around in my brain, it finally landed on earth... and turned everyone to zombies!!
