On Friday June 7th, Jenn and I got the chance to attend the conference Go Beyond Pixels 2013 in windy St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador. The event, held at Memorial University (MUN) gave us a chance to share a day of geekery with our most easterly brothers and sisters. As billed we got a chance to think and talk about HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, Mobile & App Development, UI, UX and Design.

The schedule for the day looked like this: The topics covered by the speakers really differed from being very high level to very specific. The best speaker in my opinion was Mark Otto, the developer of Bootstrap and now working at Github. It was also very impressive to watch Lea Verou live code her way through some CSS tips and tricks and her clear understanding of the depths of CSS hacks.

Overall, I think that the conference was a great success for St. John's, and Levin Mejia, the organizer. In two years he has managed to get a world class event, with high profile speakers to one of Canada’s small, but great cities. The event moved along smoothly, there was a lot of time for breaks to get to know the other attendees, and the evening cocktail party was at a great restaurant. I’m looking forward to what Go Beyond Pixels has in store for 2014. If you get the opportunity to go, use it as a chance to not just attend a quality event but also make a trip to one of the most beautiful (although not one of the warmest!) spots in Canada.
