We posted about 2 months ago that we'd officially be taking on a pro-bono client for 2010/2011 here. As mentioned in our original blog post, we've been doing this informally for years now, but we wanted to open it up to the general public to make sure that we could take on the best project possible where we could offer the best of Plank's skills.
During the extended submission period we received so many quality submissions from such a diverse set of projects that we were honoured to be considered by so many great people. After lots of debate, discussion, and an in-depth review of all the applications, the field was narrowed down to 5 projects, then to 2, then to one...
And so, with that, we're very excited to announce that Plank has chosen to work with Head & Hands, a Montréal-based non-profit. We chose Head & Hands because it's an organization that we can have the greatest impact on given their limited resources. Head and Hands is a well-respected social organization that, for the past 40 years, has helped countless people in the Montréal region.
"Head & Hands envisions a society where all youth are participants and are inspired by the endless possibilities available to them. Our mission is to work with youth to promote their physical and mental well being. Our approach is preventative, non-judgmental, and holistic with a fundamental commitment to providing an environment that welcomes youth without discrimination. We facilitate social change and the empowerment of youth based on their current needs within our community and society at large."
Plank will work with Head & Hands over the next 12 months to revamp their web presence. Next week we will have a kick-off meeting to help them determine exactly how Plank can help. We're going to set some clear goals to meet by next fall and, with their permission, we're going to keep this process as transparent as possible by blogging about the progress we're hoping to make and about the project's goals and challenges.
Given that we saw so many other great projects that also deserve to be supported, we have asked each organization personally if they would be interested in letting us help them find another web design and development company who might be willing to take on the cause. Many have said yes - and so we will, over the next little while, be publishing their projects publicly with the hopes that we can play matchmaker to them all.
Thanks again to everyone who submitted.
