Greetings from the frozen... South?
Yes, with daytime highs of 8 degrees and lows getting close to the freezing point, Austin weather is about the only thing to complain about right now. Plank has arrived in Austin TX for SXSW Interactive and the results have been fantastic. We've just gotten through our first day of panels and got some really interesting stuff under our belts.
We started out last night in grand style. While the official "opening" party for SXSW hadn't happened yet (it's tonight), the Plankers still partied and schmoozed their way down 6th Street. We ended up at a really cool "Pastries and Pasties" party at Emos, one of my favourite Austin bars. Despite the chills and rain, we still had an awesome time talking to people and getting into the SXSW spirit.
The day of panels was highlighted by a couple of great talks. First, we all got a lesson on "how to talk to programmers" (hint: learn to speak geek! ;)). But undoubtedly the highlight of the day was the keynote address, by Tony Hsieh of Zappos.com. Their unique corporate culture and customer service philosophy have made them a true success story, and it was great to hear that story straight from the CEO himself.
We're currently taking a five-minute break (that's all we have time for!) as we prepare for the big opening party tonight. Check back for more from Austin very soon!
